What is the purpose of the initial evaluation?
The purpose of the intitial evalutaion is to gather information which will help direct your individual exercise program. It will consist of a past medical history form and a brief movement analysis performed by a physical therapist.
How difficult are the exercise classes?
Each individual determines their own level of exertion. The exercises are aimed at improving your level of fitness, therefore, challenging yourself is encouraged. Each person is an individual and each person progresses at their own rate.
What if I have never exercised before?
The goal of the class is to improve the fitness level of the participants. Everyone has squatted down, reached overhead, and lifted items out of the trunk. We use these basic movements to perform most of the activities. Prior knowledge of specific exercise is not necessary.
What is the age of the participants in the class?
Age of the participants varies as does their level of fitness. The most common ages at this time are between 30 and 65 years old.
What should I wear to the class?
Clothes you would normally wear to exercise: closed toe workout shoes, a small towel, and a water bottle are suggested.
Will I need to fill out any paperwork?
Yes. You will be required to fill out a brief Medical History Form and a Release of Liability form (similar to the forms at every gym or community exercise class).
Can I use my insurance benefits to pay for The Downey Gym?
No. Exercise classes performed at The Downey Gym are not standard physical therapy services. The Downey Gym classes are only exercise training and will not include physical therapy evaluation and treatment.
How much does it cost?
180$ for 12 workout sessions (15$ per). You can also pay 20$ for drop in classes when space is available. Class size is limited, space is first come first serve.
