THE DOWNEY GYM
The Downey Gym is your community training center. It was created by and is located within Western Physical Therapy.
The Downey Gym provides a safe, fun and friendly place for you to work on improving your functional abilities and level of fitness. Whether you are concerned about your chronic knee pain, low back weakness, weight being out of control, want to improve your current lifting mechanics, or want to put yourself in an environment to jump-start your healthy lifestyle, the Downey Gym is just the place you've been looking for.
The Downey Gym provides guided group exercise developed by physical therapists and individualized to each participant's needs. Each workout is one hour in length with time for individual warm up.
WESTERN PHYSICAL THERAPY
The Downey Gym helps its members work on their own functional abilities whether that means increasing one's leg strength to improve their balance or work on their coordination and timing to improve their pull-up technique.
Muscular strength, balance, flexibility, stamina, agility, and endurance are some of the components which effect how a person feels and functions. Fortunately, all of these components can be improved in each person regardless of their age or their current level of fitness.
The key to personal improvement is to recognize and prioritize which of these components, if improved, would be the most benefit to you. Some people could benefit more from strength training than they would from flexibility exercises. Others need balance practice in addition to working on their endurance.
Each person is a unique individual with unique skills, needs and goals The Downey Gym’s aim is to help you design and practice YOUR program and have a lot of fun doing it.

Cost: Prepaid $180 for 12 workout classes ($15 per class) Drop in classes are $20 when space is available. Cost covers initial consultation by a physical therapist to individualize your warmup and establish your workout guidelines.
